Tamil Heritage Foundation is an international initiative aimed at digitizing and archiving centuries old tamil heritage materials available in the form of text, speech and visuals from the tamil speaking world of India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Singapore, South Africa and other parts of the world.

This initiative will digitize archived materials already available in various national and international musuems, libraries and from private sources. Here is a window to the world of Tamil Heritage in cyber space.

தமிழ் மரபு அறக்கட்டளை அல்லது தமிழ் முதுசொம் அறக்கட்டளை என்பது உலகு தழுவிய ஒரு இயக்கமாகும். பல்லாயிரமாண்டு தொன்மையுள்ள தமிழ் மரபுச் செல்வம் தமிழ் மொழியாகவும், அதன் இலக்கியமாகவும், அதன் கலைகளாகவும் பல்வேறு வடிவங்களில் பரிணமித்துள்ளது. இவை தமிழ் கூறும் நல்லுகங்களான தமிழ் நாடு, இலங்கை, மலேசியா, சிங்கப்பூர், தென் ஆப்பிரிக்கா மற்றும் சமீபத்தில் தமிழர் இடப்பெயர்வு கண்ட ஐரோப்பா, அமெரிக்கா மற்றும் ஆஸ்திரேலிய கண்டங்களில் காணக் கிடைக்கின்றன. ஓலைசுவடிகளில் பதிவுற்ற இலக்கியமும் மற்ற பிற கலை வளங்களும், நாட்டிய கர்நாடக இசை வடிவங்களும் காலத்தால் அழிவுற்ற நிலையில் காக்கப்பட வேண்டிய சூழ்நிலையில் உள்ளன.

இத்தகைய தமிழ் மரபுச் சின்னங்கள் காலத்தை வென்று நிற்கக்கூடிய ஒரு வாய்ப்பைச் சமீபத்திய கணினி சார்ந்த தொழில்நுட்பத் திறன் அளித்துள்ளது. ஒலி, ஒளி மற்றும் வரி வடிவங்களை இலக்கப்பதிவாக்கி வைய விரிவு வலை மற்றும் மின்காந்த இலத்திரன் வடிவாக நிரந்தரப் படுத்த முடியும். தமிழ் மரபு அறக்கட்டளை தமிழ் மரபை இலத்திரன் வடிவில் நிரந்தரப்படுத்த ஏற்பட்டிருக்கும் அகில உலக இயக்கமாகும்.

The seed money for establishing a Virtual Theme Park namely 'Tamil Heritage Foundation' was given by Dato Seri S.Samy Vellu, Minister for Works, Government of Malaysia and President of Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) during Tamil Internet 2001 Conference in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia, on August 29, 2001. Thereby, Dato Seri S.Samy Vellu becomes the first patron of this global initiative.

தமிழ் மரபு அறக்கட்டளை அமைப்பதற்கான விதைக்காசை மலேசிய இந்தியர் காங்கிரஸ் தலைவரும், மலேசியப் பொதுப்பணித் துறை அமைச்சருமான டத்தோ ஸ்ரீ ச.சாமிவேலு அவர்கள் ஆகஸ்ட் 29, 2001 அன்று கோலாலம்பூரில் நடந்த தமிழ் இணைய மாநாட்டில் அளித்தார். இவ்வகையில் தமிழ் மரபு அறக்கட்டளையின் முதல் அறக்காவலராக டத்தோ ஸ்ரீ ச.சாமிவேலு அவர்கள் அமைகிறார்கள்.

Centuries before the invention of printing, Tamils have recorded much of Tamil's literary and scientific heritage on the readily available medium of dried, smoothed and smoke-treated leaves of talipot (olai in Tamil) palm trees. Over a million such manuscripts face decay and disintegration before getting published. They need to be digitized, catalogued, documented and preserved. Even the printed books, not seeing any reprinting, face the same fate. They need preservation as well.

An Email forum called E-Suvadi (Electronic Manuscripts) has been formed specifically to discuss and coordinate such activities and to identify collaborative partners around the world. This forum can be located at E-Suvadi

அச்சுக் கூடங்கள் தமிழுக்கு அறிமுகமாகு முன் தமிழர்கள் மரபுச் சேதிகளைப் பனையோலைகளில் எழுதி பல்லாண்டு காலங்களாகப் பத்திரப்படுத்தி வந்தனர். ஆயினும் மர இலையிலான இவ்வூடகம் காலத்தால் அழிவுறக்கூடியதே. இத்தகைய பதிவுகள் இன்னும் ஐந்து, பத்து வருடங்களில் இலக்கப் பதிவாக்கப் பட்டு நிரந்தரப் படுத்தப் படவில்லையெனில் ஏறக்குறைய 10 இலட்சம் சுவடிகளில் பதிவுற்ற கலை, இலக்கிய, மருத்துவ, வானியல் மற்றும் பல்கலைச் செல்வங்கள் என்னவென்று அறியப்படாமலே அழிந்து போக வாய்ப்புள்ளது. 15ம் நூற்றாண்டு தொடக்கம் பதிவுற்ற (அச்சு) நூல்களுக்கும் இதே கதிதான். எனவே இவை முறையாக இலக்கப் பதிவாக்கப்படத் தேவையான விஷயங்களை அலச 'இ-சுவடி (இலத்திரன் சுவடி) என்றொரு மடலாடற்குழு உருவாக்கப் பட்டுள்ளது. தமிழ் மரபின் மீது ஆர்வமுள்ள எவரும் 'இ-சுவடியில்' உறுப்பினராகி பங்குபெறலாம்.
